Semi Clutch & Driveline Repair Jerome, Idaho

Need semi clutch or driveline repair in Jerome, Idaho? A clutch that slips pulling a grade, a pedal that got stiff, or a vibration humming up through the floorboards — those problems only grow with miles. The Semi Shop handles clutch and driveline work on all major truck brands. Call (208) 696-9888.

What does clutch and driveline repair include?

On the clutch side: replacement and adjustment, throw-out (release) bearings, pilot bearings, clutch brakes, cross shafts, and linkage. On the driveline side: U-joints, carrier (hanger) bearings, slip yokes, driveshaft balance and repair, and checking pinion angles when a vibration won't go away.

We do this work on Kenworth, Peterbilt, Freightliner, Western Star, Volvo, Mack, and International trucks. If your truck creeps at a stop with the clutch in, grinds going into gear, or shudders on takeoff with a load, those are all clutch-system complaints we hear every week.

How long does a clutch job take?

A clutch adjustment is quick — often while you wait. A full clutch replacement means pulling the transmission back, so plan on the truck being with us longer; we'll give you a real timeline when we quote it. U-joints and carrier bearings are usually same-day. Whatever we find, you get the price before the work starts, and the price we quote is the price you pay.

Can I keep driving on a slipping clutch?

You can, but every slip is grinding money off the disc and heat-checking the flywheel. A clutch caught early is a straightforward replacement; one driven until it lets go can take the flywheel with it and leave you needing a tow off I-84 with a load on. If the engine revs climb but the truck doesn't pull like it should, call us before your next heavy haul.

Farm lanes, feedlots, and clutch wear

Magic Valley work is hard on clutches. Dairy and cattle routes around Jerome, Wendell, and Gooding mean constant stop-and-go — backing to milk barns, creeping through feedlots, rocking out of soft gravel. That duty cycle eats clutches faster than highway miles ever will. If your truck lives on farm calls, have the clutch adjustment and free play checked at every PM. It costs almost nothing and it's the difference between a scheduled repair and a harvest-season breakdown.

Driver questions

How do I know if my clutch is going out?

The usual signs: engine RPM climbs but the truck doesn't pull (slipping), the pedal feels different than it used to, it grinds going into gear, or it shudders on takeoff under load. Any one of those is worth a look before it strands you.

What causes a driveline vibration at highway speed?

Most often a worn U-joint or carrier bearing, a driveshaft out of balance, or a bad slip yoke. Left alone, a failed U-joint can drop the driveshaft on the highway. We find the source and quote the fix before we touch it.

Do you adjust clutches, or just replace them?

Both. Many manual clutches need periodic adjustment, and a truck that's hard to shift sometimes just needs free play set right. We adjust first when that's the honest fix — we don't sell you a clutch you don't need.
