Trailer DOT Inspections Jerome & Twin Falls, Idaho

Trailer DOT inspections in Jerome and Twin Falls, Idaho catch a lot of drivers off guard, because many don't know the rule: every trailer needs its own annual inspection. The sticker on your tractor doesn't cover the trailer behind it. We do trailer annuals at the shop in Jerome, and we can do your tractor's annual in the same visit.

Does my trailer really need its own annual inspection?

Yes. Under FMCSA rules, every commercial trailer must pass its own annual inspection — same as the tractor. Run a trailer past its inspection date and it can be put out of service at a roadside check, loaded or not.

Our inspections are performed by qualified inspectors per FMCSA 49 CFR 396.19. We keep every inspection report on file for 14 months, so if you ever lose your copy, one call to (208) 696-9888 gets you a replacement.

What does a trailer DOT inspection cover?

The inspector goes through the trailer end to end: brakes and brake adjustment, air lines and chambers, wheels and hubs, suspension, frame and cross members, coupling devices, floor condition, doors, lights, reflective tape, and mud flaps. If the trailer passes, you get the report and the sticker. If something fails, we quote the repair before touching it — the price we quote is the price you pay — and we can usually fix it and finish the inspection the same visit.

How long does a trailer inspection take?

Plan on about an hour for a clean trailer. Add repair time if the inspection finds problems, which is exactly what it's there to do. We're open 7 AM to 10 PM every day, so you can schedule around loads instead of losing a morning. We serve trailers from all over the Magic Valley — Jerome, Twin Falls, Burley, Wendell, Gooding, and the whole I-84 corridor.

Do the tractor and trailer together

The smart move is pairing them: bring the tractor and trailer in together and we do both annuals in one visit. One trip, two stickers, and both units legal for the year. With harvest traffic packing I-84 every summer and inspection activity to match, having both annuals current is cheap insurance against an out-of-service order.

Driver questions

Who is allowed to do a trailer annual inspection?

Federal rule 49 CFR 396.19 sets the qualifications an inspector must meet — training, experience, and knowledge of the standards. Our inspectors meet those qualifications, and we keep the records to prove it. Be wary of any shop claiming a certification the FMCSA doesn't actually issue.

What happens if my trailer fails the inspection?

We show you exactly what failed and quote the repair before any work starts. Most fixes — lights, brake adjustments, a mud flap — are done the same day, and then we complete the inspection. You don't leave with a mystery list.

How long do you keep my inspection report?

We keep inspection reports for 14 months, which matches the federal requirement. If you're audited or lose your paperwork, call (208) 696-9888 and we'll get you a copy.
